The Architecture Symposium: Out of Office
Stories of experimentation and lessons from site. Curated by Clare Kennedy and John Ellway.
Tomoaki Uno was born in the Aichi Prefecture in Central Japan in 1960 as the eldest son of a plasterer. Because of this, he was surrounded by the work of craftsmen and became interested in architecture from an early age. However, instead of following in his father's footsteps, he went to university and later established an architectural firm in 1990, and since 2003 has became fully involved in the construction process.
Uno spends his days deeply involved in architecture, mainly with designing and constructing houses and carrying out regular maintenance for projects. Ever since he started, what he has been striving for is "unprecedented ordinary architecture.”
