Kao Castle started Practical Horse Genetics in 2013. Practical Horse Genetics does DNA testing for horse owners and breeders in Australia. The DNA tests identify genes underlying horses coat colours and health, helping breeders produce healthy and valuable foals, or sometimes just satisfying their curiosity.
Kao has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Advanced Chemistry and a PhD in Veterinary Science. She also spent a number of years working in bioinformatics, which is the computational analysis of biological data. As a self-described "geek" and "nerd," she was in demand to translate between the various jargon dialects of the IT and science specialists.
