Chloe Middleton is co-director of Alcorn Middleton, a Brisbane-based practice she has led alongside her partner Joel Alcorn. At its core, Alcorn Middleton’s work reflects a commitment to creative dexterity as a means of enriching the everyday. The practice prides itself on listening intently to clients – designing not only in response to what is spoken, but also to what is felt, observed, and intuitively understood.
Working across architecture and interior design, the studio shapes spaces across a myriad of residential, commercial, educational, and urban opportunities, with a focus on lifestyle, longevity, and lived experiential qualities. Having studied both disciplines, Chloe advocates an approach where materiality, contrast and composition are tools to shape spatial depth and intrigue, not just adornment. Central to her ethos is a sensitivity to balance – celebrating the quiet, functional gestures as much as the crafted, expressive moments that give both internal and external spaces a sense of rhythm and meaning.
Through Chloe’s influence, Alcorn Middleton has built a reputation for thought-provoking, innovative work, most recently receiving the Queensland Architecture Medallion. The studio’s engagement with design culture goes beyond project delivery – participating in the conversations that shape the discipline and the broader opportunity to engage a wider public with the cultural and everyday value of good design. This ongoing curiosity keeps the practice open-minded, reflective, and responsive to the evolving conditions of contemporary life – and to the meaningful role design plays within it.
