Program Info
As the world grapples with the most far-reaching health crisis in more than 100 years, along with an ageing population and persistent health disparities, the role that architecture can play in health care deserves renewed attention.
How can we ensure architectural agency in the health care sector is progressive and responsive, rather than reactive? This edition of the Health Care / Health Design forum explores how architectural outcomes can influence the quality and efficiency of our health care systems. Leading practitioners, researchers and administrators from Australia and abroad discuss issues, share their experiences and interrogate architecture’s relationship with the health challenges the world faces today.

All Together Now: Designing for Community
The word “community” gets thrown around a lot in discussions around health care, but how can architects create healthcare environments that are truly embraced by the communities they serve while simultaneously cater to the unique needs of various health conditions? Speakers in this session will delve into the importance of design, consultation and collaboration for creating fit-for-purpose, community-centric healthcare facilities. -

Siobhan Wyatt
Head of Property, Maggie's Centres
Siobhan found her way into construction through the unconventional route of art history, fine art and interiors. Prior to joining Maggie’s, Siobhan worked for a leading construction consultancy helping deliver a wide range of building projects before focussing on work within the cultural and heritage sector. Working as a consultant to clients that include the Tate Gallery, Westminster Abbey and various museum charities and trusts, Siobhan worked with a skilled team to realize the most significant addition to Westminster Abbey since 1745 providing access to the new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries as well as taking various roles in the delivery of the Tate Modern extension project at Bankside.
David Kaunitz
Director, Kaunitz Yeung Architecture
David founded Kaunitz Yeung Architecture with his wife Ka Wai Yeung following his return to Sydney after living in the UK and the Solomon Islands. His seven years in the UK included five as a director of a large practice running its London studio where he worked on some of the largest projects in Europe, including the Barnsley Interchange and the London Olympic Village for clients such as HSBC, Marks and Spencer and Lend Lease. It was here he developed a passion for health, education and public buildings with a community focus and honed the skills to manage complex networks of stakeholders.
Debbie Ryan
Principal, McBride Charles Ryan
Debbie is the owner of McBride Charles Ryan with over 30 years’ experience in design and the built environment. Debbie is recognized as one of Australia’s leading designers as is demonstrated by her numerous national and international awards.
Debbie believes that architecture should never relinquish experimentation and uses design of all scales as a means to this end. With each project, forms, spaces, materials and context are all up for grabs. Both scientific and intuitive, Debbie has a special ability to conceive design schemes that meet the individual requirements of each building.
