Program Info

Imagine a home designed and built especially for your family to grow, evolve and create memories in, over a lifetime. Join a lively conversation between architects Lindsay Clare, Kerry Clare (Clare Design) and Stuart Vokes (Owen and Vokes and Peters) about great Australian homes designed to last a lifetime. The 1987 Thrupp and Summers House (above) by Clare Design is featured in the new book The Forever House: Time Honoured Australian Homes, published by Thames and Hudson and edited by Cameron Bruhn and Katelin Butler. Presented as part of the Brisbane Open House program (11–12 October 2014), this event is generously hosted at Hassell’s Brisbane Studio. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event through Folio Books.

Kerry Clare

Director, Clare Design

Kerry Clare is a director of Clare Design, which she co-founded with her husband Lindsay in 1979. The practice’s work includes diverse projects from major urban and public buildings to self-sufficient houses. Clare Design is consistently acknowledged for a rare combination of design excellence and high-level environmental performance.

The Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal jury noted that the Clares “have made an enormous contribution to the advancement of architecture and particularly sustainable architecture, with a strongly held belief that good design and sustainable design are intrinsically linked.” Their buildings allow occupants to engage with architecture and the world outside, reinforcing the essential connection with place.
