Urgent Attention Required: Designing for Crisis
Stefano is a well-known advocate for good design in contemporary health settings. He has over 25 years’ experience practicing as an architect in the planning and design of major institutional facilities across Australia including for teaching, learning and research, corrections and justice and health, mental health and aged care settings. He was a principal of Lyons for over a decade working closely with the foundational directors and in 2015 was awarded the prestigious 50th anniversary Churchill Fellowship to research high amenity acute mental health settings over multiple levels. This seminal research went on to guide Victoria’s infrastructure response to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system and is still referenced today across Australia.
Recently Stefano graduated from the Australian Major Projects Leadership Academy an initiative of the Victorian government led by the Said Business School at Oxford University. Stefano is the Executive General Manager of Planning and Development at the Victorian Health Building Authority where he oversees the planning of Victoria’s pipeline of health, mental health and aged care infrastructure.
