Health Care / Health Design – Session 3
Hospitals of the Future: Designing for Innovative Healthcare
Catherine is a successful architect with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. She has a solid background in large, complex projects for both public and private clients across a range of sectors, including health, commercial, education, defence and aviation projects. Many of these projects required strategic analysis and resolution of complex and often competing needs of users, staff and servicing. Before joining Hassell in the Sydney Studio, Catherine was a director at HDR and during that time worked closely with the health team in seeking and delivering some of Australasia’s largest projects.
In 2012 Catherine completed a UK and Europe Health Study Tour where she had the opportunity to visit numerous health facilities including: Pembury, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Manchester Children's Hospital, Salford Royal Hospital, Maggie’s Centre Hammersmith and the London Clinic. Highlights included seeing examples of good patient-centred design, understanding how cultural differences impact on facility design, as well as identifying contributors to the urban environment by health facilities.
