
The Architecture Symposium: What’s next for practice?

Billy Maynard is the Director of Billy Maynard Architects (BMA), a studio-based architecture practice in Sydney.
The practice’s portfolio has a primary focus on housing and small public projects, with a contextually precise approach to urban and rural sites. With a growing body of work, awards and international recognition, the practice has collaborated with major cultural institutions on interiors and exhibition design and was an emerging practice for Powerhouse Museum and Riverside Theatre competitions. In 2025 BMA was appointed as the architect for the new Contemporary War Memorial in located Sydney’s Domain located adjacent to the Art Gallery of NSW.
BMA has received national and international recognition including being the Houses Awards, the Think Brick Award and the Australian institute of Architects Byera Hadley Scholarship. In addition, the practice has been shortlisted for numerous awards including the Weinberger Award. Projects have been published in Architecture Australia, Design Files, Yellow Trace, Open House, C3 Magazine, Plan Magazine, Divisare, Union Magazine and more.
