Mount Stuart Greenhouse.
Architects
Presented by
Sophie Bence and Shamus Mulcahy, Directors, Bence Mulcahy
Sophie Bence and Shamus Mulcahy of Bence Mulcahy will present Mount Stuart Greenhouse alongside their client Bron Fitzgerald.
The design brief from Bron and partner Guy Bylsma, who recently moved into this heritage house on the fringe of Hobart, was for their home to be “engulfed by the garden.” Bence Mulcahy's response was to design a two-storey greenhouse style glass extension, with a private suite contained in a floating box.

Bron Fitzgerald, Client,
Bron Fitzgerald, co-founder of Hobart Paediatric Group is a busy professional who shares her home with her partner, three children and their beautiful dog, Gully. This historic federation Italianate home in a hilly inner city suburb of Hobart overlooks an expansive garden towards the city and the River Derwent.
Bron wanted to extend the home to provide for contemporary family life, connect to the garden and “bring the sky in.”
Balmain Rock.
Architect
Presented by
Andrew Benn, Director, Benn + Penna
Andrew Benn of Benn + Penna will present Balmain Rock alongside his client Vanessa Rock.
Joint winner of the 2019 Houses Award: House in a Heritage Context, Balmain Rock is a compact 1860s sandstone cottage in Sydney's inner-west that presents a balance of new and old with additions that respect the original quality of the home. A new concrete pavilion expands the home, offering a material juxtaposition to highlight the warmth of the sandstone.
